The Definition of the Project

The goal of this project is to solve a common problem, that a certain youth organization faces every summer.

Organization called “Õpilasmalev” (www.malev.ee) organizes every year a multitude of youth-camps, that go back decades in the traditions and structure these camps have.

One of the problems the organization has faced more and more over the last years, is the wish to collect intellectual property the teens publish over the web.

The thousands of kids that attend Õpilasmalev camps year by year, create a multitude of blog posts, digital images, video mash-ups etc. that are more or less connected to their experience with Õpilasmalev.

In the effort to archive and simply gain overview of this creativity, Õpilasmalev would be more than happy to see some sort of overview of each of its member creations.

Also – the children themselves – gain tens and tens of new friends every year in the camps and they also wish to easily access the media, his or her friend has created.

Our team wants to create a solution, that is social portal opened strictly for Õpilasmalev members. This portal offers its members to create a profile for one, and full it with every type of social media source she or he has created (maintains).

The outcome would be the following:

“Kati wants to join Õpilasmalev. When April comes, the registration portal opens. Kati then goes to the site (malev.ee –> minu.malev.ee) and does the primary registration (name, parents, health info). This step is neccesary every year (part of governmental demand). Now she has an account. And this is end of part one.

Kati goes on to have a wonderful summer in Õpilasmalev youth-camp. When she returns, she has a multitude of photos, videos and blog-posts about her experience this summer. All the friends she made in Õpilasmalev, now ask for her to share her material. She is tired of sending the links every time, someone asks. Rather – she returns to malev.ee site and updates her profile.

The updates are – she enteres her YouTube account name (or posts a direct link to the video collection), she links her Pildialbum.ee username to her account, she enteres her blog-address with MALEV tags and she links her Orkut user-name (aka Google Account) to her minu.malev.ee profile, now gaining the opportunity to login to the account using the Google Account.

The outcome of her actions is that now she has an interactive profile, filled with up to date media she had created during that summer. And everybody who is part of Õpilasmalev, has an easy entry to that media.”
